This Just In: The Groundhog Predicts an Early Spring Real Estate Market!

Will Punxsutawney Phil (Full name: Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Sage of Sages, Prognosticator of Prognosticators, and Weather Prophet Extraordinare) see his shadow? Will he not? And while we know that Groundhog Day is about predicting the weather, is it possible that Phil can predict the Sonoma County real estate market as well?

Without the groundhog, February 2 would be just another day on the calendar. Punxsutawney Phil is a harbinger of potentially warmer weather to come. Will he see his shadow? Will he not? Why do we care so much? Besides weather prediction, there are some other offbeat facts surrounding this kooky holiday that you need to know.

Groundhogs actually can predict spring, but not with a shadow. As hibernating creatures, a groundhog naturally emerging from the burrow would generally signify that the ground has warmed, and spring is on the way. And February 2 isn’t an arbitrary date. Because it’s the midpoint between the winter solstice and the spring solstice, it’s an ideal time to check for an early spring.

So, back to the real estate question. Can Punxsutawney Phil predict trends in the real estate market?

Well, sure! You can be sure that if Phil doesn’t see his shadow that spring is on the way, and with it, the exciting spring real estate market. Time to get your pre-approvals ready and chat with me about listing your home! And if he does see his shadow and we’re expecting six more weeks of winter, it’s still time to get the pre-approvals ready and make plans. Interest rates are the lowest they’ve been since September, so Phil is predicting a great Sonoma County real estate market ahead—whether he sees his shadow or not!
