It’s 2011, and I’d been searching for a house for two years. Even though homes at the time were near the bottom of the downturn prices, most were a bit out of my range. On a teacher’s salary, it can be tricky to find and secure a home!
Imagine my excitement when I finally found a great house with a view in Cloverdale (teachers don't usually get views). However, the housing market was starting to pick up and all cash-offers where starting to become a thing. I knew I would have to act fast.
I called Trish Thursday morning and she had a bid in that afternoon. Because the house was a foreclosure and bank-owned, the bank was slowly going through the motions.
So, what did Trish do? She picked up some ice cream Friday afternoon and went down to the bank at 5pm, which is generally closing time. She asked the bank employees if they would enjoy an ice cream party while they finished off the deal. They stayed—and they did enjoy the ice cream!
Over the weekend, three all-cash offers came in on the property that would have topped my bid. But Trish, that house and an armload of ice cream changed my life.
